All India Cine Workers Association (AICWA) banned Indian film industry singer Mika Singh on Tuesday for performing at a function in Karachi, Pakistan.
In Pakistan, the event was hosted by a close relative of former Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf.
“AICWA takes a view that it will discontinue its association with movie production houses, music companies and online music content providers,” AICWA president Suresh Shyamlal Gupta said in a statement on Tuesday.
The film body imposed an unconditional ban on the singer and expelled him from all films and music contracts with entertainment companies.
“AICWA ensures no one in India works with Mika Singh, and if anyone does, they will face legal consequences in court,” it said in a statement.
“When the tension between the countries is at an all-time high, Mika Singh puts the money beyond the nation’s pride,” the film society said.
The Association wants the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to intervene in the matter.
