A climate change report published by United Nations scientists says that eating less meat and reducing food waste reduces global emissions and benefits our health and the environment.
The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, which published its report on Thursday, said that 70 percent of the ice-free land on Earth is affected by humans, and that the panel previously said that changing our diets could make up 20 percent of efforts. Global temperatures rise from 2 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels.
“A balanced diet consists of plant-based food … and animal-based food produced in a resilient, sustainable and low [greenhouse gas] emission system provides significant opportunities for adaptation and mitigation while producing significant co-benefits in terms of human health.”
