State police have asserted that the state of lockdown has been peaceful since the Narendra Modi government decided to repeal Article 370 which gave special status to the state. Eid, the biggest festival for the valley this time, is a quiet affair, with markets closed in Srinagar and other parts of the valley.
The bakeries in Srinagar are out of stock in Arfa (one day before Eid), and they are unable to sell even 10% of what they used.
Even before the week of Eid, clothes and gifts had not begun. People were able to navigate the barricades run by paramilitary forces to buy some bakery products and other essentials.
Paramilitary forces were roaming across the valley and Kashmir was in custody with Section 144 (restricting the meeting of four or more persons openly). All telephone communication and internet services have been eliminated.
Earlier this week, restrictions on Friday prayers for people in local mosques were relaxed, with security forces on high alert across the valley in a clear move to prevent the protests. It is reported that security personnel have allowed people to visit mosques in their areas without asking any questions.
