According to union health ministry data on Saturday morning, India recorded a total of 4,01,078 new coronavirus infections in the last 24 hours, taking the total caseload in the country to 2,18,92,676, while 4,187 deaths due to the deadly pathogen took the total death toll in the country to 2,38,270.
Meanwhile, after recovering from Covid-19 across the country, the total discharge in the country also reached 1,79,30,960 after 318,609 people were discharged from hospitals.
Recording a steady increase, active cases rose to 37,23,446, 17.01 percent of total infections, and the national covid-19 recovery rate fell to 81.90 percent. The number of people who recovered from the disease increased to 1,79,30, 960, with the case death rate being 1.09 percent.
This is the fourth time since May 1 that India has crossed the four-lakh mark of new cases in the last 24 hours. India recorded 4,14,188 cases on Friday, while on Thursday, 4.12 lakh cases and 3,980 deaths were reported in the country – the highest till then. India has continued with more than three lakh cases in the last 16 days, while more than 3,000 casualties have been reported over the past 10 days.
The health ministry said that while there are currently more than one lakh active covid-19 cases in twelve states, the count is between 50,000 and one lakh out of seven. It said the positivity rate currently is over 15 percent of the country’s 24 states and is in the range of 5-15 percent out of nine.
According to the data, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, and Chhattisgarh show continued plateau or decrease in daily new Covid-19 cases in states and Union Territories. However, Karnataka, Kerala, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, and Odisha show an upward trend in daily new cases of infection.
The Health Ministry has asked the states to prioritize the beneficiaries awaiting the second dose of the Covid-19 vaccine and ensure timely completion of the recommended vaccination schedule.
