Future phones: smartphones in 2023 and 2024

There is always something coming because of how quickly smartphones are evolving. As soon as the newest phone is spotted, anticipation is already building for the next big thing.

Here, we examine the 2023 and 2024 smartphones that have not yet been released. This list will be updated often with gadget rumours that we believe to be fascinating and genuine.

For already-released devices, we’ve compiled a list of the top smartphones of 2023 elsewhere, including those we think are the best overall. There are also our cheap smartphones and a collection of mid-range options if your budget is a little bit less.

The upcoming generation of phones

Before we dive into the detail, here are some of the anticipated handsets for 2023 and beyond:

  • OnePlus V Fold and V Flip
  • Nothing Phone (2)
  • Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5
  • Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5
  • iPhone 15 and 15 Pro
  • Google Pixel G10/Pixel 7 Ultra
  • Xiaomi Mix Fold 3
  • Google Pixel 8
  • Samsung Galaxy S23 FE
  • New Microsoft Surface foldable
  • iPhone 16 series
  • Xiaomi 14 series

OnePlus V Fold and V Flip

The company teased the future debut of its first foldable phone(s), which are scheduled to be unveiled in the third quarter of 2023, during its OnePlus 11 and Buds Pro 2 launch event. It has been speculated that it may introduce both horizontal and vertical (flip) design foldable smartphones, similar to its parent firm Oppo. Beyond that, there isn’t much information available, but it is reasonable to infer that they will be modified versions of the Oppo Find N2 and Find N2 Flip.

Nothing Phone (2)

The second generation Nothing Phone will be part of Nothing’s expansion into the US, the relatively new firm founded by Carl Pei. The manufacturer has also declared that, in contrast to its original model, this phone would run on a flagship-caliber processor. That will be the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 platform specifically, not the more recent Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. On July 11, 2023, it will be unveiled. It will have a completely new look with curved edges and a polished back.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5

For months, rumours have been circulating about Samsung’s next foldable flagship, and it appears that Samsung has listened to criticism and is resolving a few user complaints. The display’s crease is one of them. In order to eliminate that obvious, clear crease and narrow the gap, it has been recommended that the upcoming model’s display have a droplet curve. It’s even been said that the phone’s frame would have a silo for the S Pen, but more recent claims claim that won’t be the case, so it’s still a bit of a mystery.

It’s expected to be announced in late July/early August, with a price comfortably north of $1500/£1500.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5

We anticipate that Samsung will also introduce the new Z Flip 5 along with the new Z Fold since it would be quite uncommon for the firm to unveil a new Z Fold without the accompanying clamshell Z Flip. For the most part, manufacturers appear to be focusing on cover screens this year. According to rumours, Samsung’s upcoming Flip will have a considerably larger cover screen that will occupy almost the whole front cover of the phone.

Apple iPhone 15 range

Apple introduces a new lineup of iPhones every year, as inescapably as night follows day. The recently released iPhone 14 suggests that the iPhone 15 will be available in 2019.

Even though the iPhone 14 is still a brand-new product, talk of the iPhone 15 has already begun. While some reports contend that Apple will switch from physical buttons to solid-state or haptic ones, and other leaks predict a transition to 120Hz screens for all models, Apple has already confirmed the switch from Lightning to USB-C. The following models will most likely debut in September or October 2023.

Pixel G10/Pixel 7 Ultra

Since all we know about the Pixel G10 is that it’s under development and will have the same screen as the Pixel 7 Pro, it’s a bit of a mystery gadget.

Another unannounced Pixel gadget emerged after speculations about the Pixel 7a series. Although the Pixel G10 has been found, it appears that no one truly understands what it is. We’re not sure on this one, but it should have a big 6.7-inch QuadHD display, much like the Pixel 7 Pro. It also may be the Pixel 7 Ultra.

Xiaomi Mix Fold 3

Xiaomi

Xiaomi hasn’t yet acknowledged the existence of the Mix Fold 3, but whispers about the product are already intensifying. About everything we know about it so far is that it will land in the third quarter of 2023. It will surely run on whatever Qualcomm’s Snapdragon team platform is the most advanced, and it will probably only be offered in China.

Google Pixel 8 series

As we enter the second part of the year, we may start anticipating the Pixel smartphones of the upcoming generation. Improved camera sensors are believed to be included in the Pixel 8 series, which could result in even better low-light performance for the Google-made flagships. Both the primary and ultrawide cameras are rumoured to receive enhancements, and a new ToF sensor is anticipated to be included for quicker and more precise autofocus.

Samsung Galaxy S23 FE

LetsGoDigital

Early rumours about the Galaxy S23 FE seemed to indicate that it wouldn’t materialise, but subsequent developments appear to be pointing to the possibility that it will. In time for the Galaxy S24, the Exynos-powered Fan Edition is anticipated to launch at the end of 2023 with larger rollouts beginning in early 2024.

Microsoft Surface foldable

It’s been reported that Microsoft has abandoned plans for a third generation of the Surface Duo, which has two panels that fold shut, and is instead working on a phone with one sizable folding screen. If so, the Microsoft Surface folding may operate more similarly to a Samsung Galaxy Z Fold than a two-screen smartphone with a hinge.

Xiaomi 14 series

Speculation about the upcoming Xiaomi flagships has only recently begun, thus the situation is still rather hazy. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 CPU, a 1-inch camera sensor with variable aperture, and a launch by the end of 2023 in China (at least) are anticipated for the next all-powerful camera monarchs.

OnePlus 12

In line with tradition, OnePlus releases its new flagship models in the first quarter of the year, and speculation over the upcoming model has already begun. According to reliable leaker’s information, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 CPU, 120Hz display, 100W fast charging, and a triple camera system with periscope zoom may all be included.

– that the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro will have larger screens than the current crop.
